Until 1995, the Phoenix Museum of History was named The Arizona Museum of History. In 1919 the Maricopa Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) began a drive to establish a museum. In 1923 it became Phoenix's first museum when it was incorporated as a private, non-profit organization. In 2009, the Board voted to merge with The Arizona Science Center.
