Howdy MWDL Pardners (forgive us)! It’s mid-June, summer is upon us, and we have a batch of new collections to introduce.

Utah Valley University, Fulton Library

Roots of Knowledge

First up, did you know that Fulton Library’s Roots of Knowledge exhibit is celebrating its 10-year anniversary? It’s true! A pair of related collections, Roots of Knowledge Oral Histories and Roots of Knowledge Speaker Series, joined MWDL in May. The RoK Oral Histories provides interviews with individuals involved in the windows’ creation, while the Speaker Series features presentation by a variety of experts on various topics. According to the description, “The series gives speakers and audience members the opportunity to connect with and explore the many ideas and human developments portrayed in the windows through the beauty of stained glass.” You might also check out the Roots of Knowledge: Behind the Scenes collection, which features concept drawings, artist renderings, and behind-the-scenes photographs of the windows being crafted and installed.

UVU Shared Governance

Next, a pair of collections related to shared governance at UVU have come online: Faculty Senate Archived Meeting Documents and Historical Student Council Photographs . Both offer documents and photographs pertaining to these bodies, their activities, and shared governance on campus. The Student Council photographs were donated by the UVU Student Government in 2017; the Senate meeting documents cover 2009-2010 through 2017-2018 with a few exceptions.

Commencement

Be sure to check out the Utah Valley University Commencement Programs! These date back to 1955 (with a few exceptions) and follow the university’s development as its purpose and name evolved: Central Utah Vocational School; Utah Trade Technical Institute; Utah Technical College; Utah Technical College at Provo/Orem; Utah Valley Community College; Utah Valley State College; and Utah Valley University. Hats off, graduates!

Research

Finally, if you’re just learning the phrase “medical entomology” for the first time today, you’re probably not alone! Not so for Dr. Wilhelm (“Willy”) Burgdorfer, whose research on the causative agents of tick-borne illnesses is still being used in the field today. The Willy Burgdorfer Collection of Lyme Disease Research Materials contains materials from Dr. Burgdorfer’s personal and professional life, including original research, laboratory work, photographs, research slides, and many distinguished career awards.

That’s all for now and we look forward to seeing folks at our Member Meeting on August 7. Details are still shaping up but we always have a great time with colleagues!
