Charles Wilson Nibley (1849–1931) was born in Scotland, but he moved to the United States in 1855. He lived with his family on a farm in Rhode Island before moving to Cache Valley in 1860. Charles became a prominent businessman and entrepreneur of Cache Valley. He was employed by the Central Pacific Railroad as a station manager and by the Utah Northern Railroad as a general freight and passenger agent. He also found success in the lumber business when he, David Eccles, and George Stoddard founded the Oregon Lumber Company. Later in life he became involved with both the Amalgamated Sugar Company and the Utah and Idaho Sugar Company. Nibley was also active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He became a general authority, served as presiding bishop under President Joseph F. Smith, and served as a second counselor to President Heber J. Grant. His personal life revolved around his three wives—Rebecca Neibaur, Ellen Ricks, and Julia Budge—and the twenty-four children they would have.
The Nibley Family Photographs collection consists of images of C. W. Nibley and his family during the late 1800s and early 1900s. There are also some photos of the Hatch family from the Joseph Hatch and Florence Nibley line. The complete inventory of the collection is available.
