Mid Summer 2025 News

Hello everyone!

Last Friday, August 8, we got together at University of Utah’s Marriott Library for a day of networking, presentations, and camaraderie. If you weren’t able to make it, you can still catch up with our Member Meeting recordings.

Our morning session included a welcome from our Marriott Library Associate Dean for Research, IT and Digital Library Services, Harish Maringanti, a spirited get-to-know-you bingo competition, tours of Marriott’s digitization lab and the building, updates from remote MWDL members, and an update on MWDL & DPLA’s operations by MWDL Program Director, Teresa Hebron.

After lunch, we heard member updates from Oregon Digital, Utah State University, Brigham Young University, and University of Utah-Marriott Library. Topics ranged widely from systems migrations to grant-funded software tool development. We then had about an hour of discussion and networking time with one another before saying goodbye!

MWDL welcomed one new collection in August from University of Utah-Marriott Library, the Frank E. Moss Papers. Senator Moss represented Utah in the 86th-93rd U.S. Congress and the collection includes personal files dating 1935-76.

DPLA’s Wikimedia Working Group has scheduled its five-part Wikimedia webinar series, Wikipedia for Cultural Heritage, on the second Thursday of each month, September 2025 through January 2026. The sessions will begin at 11AM Mountain/10AM Pacific time. You can learn more about the series on DPLA’s site and register for those that interest you! We hope to to see you there.

Next, DPLA’s Network Council is hosting a series of regional listening sessions through the mid summer and early fall to gather as a community as DPLA proceeds with its organizational transition to Free Library of Philadelphia. MWDL’s session (West) will be held Wednesday, September 24 at noon Mountain time/11 AM Pacific. An additional open session will be held October 7. Please sign up if you’re interested!

Finally, fall semester is almost upon us and we’ll be tabling again at Marriott Library’s Fall Fest alongside our Digital Library Services colleagues. We are also proud to be an orange-tier sponsor for the Western History Association’s Conference in October.
