The spring has flown by and with temperatures soaring, it’s time for summer! We have a few brief news items to share from around our network.
Member Meeting
The 2025 MWDL Member Meeting will be held Friday, August 8 at Marriott Library! Stay tuned for more information and registration details in the coming weeks.
Governing Body
The MWDL Governing Body met on May 22. Emily Boss (University of Nevada, Reno) turned over the Chair gavel to Robyn Ward (Westminster University) and Robyn’s 2-year term as Chair will begin on July 1. Julia Simic (University of Oregon) opted to continue her term representing Member Repositories; Lindsey Memory (Brigham Young University) will take over Emily’s seat as of July 1. Congrats to all and thanks for your service, Emily & Julia!
New Collections
Utah Valley University contributed a new collection in May, the UVU Board of Trustees Agendas. This collection contains meeting agendas from the Utah Valley University Board of Trustees from 1989-2014.
In the Media/Here & There
Photographer Zig Jackson is featured in the current Library of Congress Magazine (LCM)! The May-June issue focuses on Native American artists and how Jackson is the first contemporary Native artist to be collected by Library of Congress.
Marriott Library’s Rachel Jane Wittmann’s work with Kirby Gene Anderson on the Let Freedom Read Dress was recently featured in NoKill Magazine and the dress is currently on display at Arlington Heights (IL) Memorial Library as part of the Community & Craftivism exhibition. The dress will join other pieces that “showcase how art can form community, but also how it can be an impactful way to shed light on important issues.” Congrats!
DPLA
DPLA’s transition to its new home at Free Library of Philadelphia continues. Temple University (PA) and and FLP will host a DPLA member summit in October 2025. DPLA also welcomed a new part-time team member, Michelle Rago, in early June!
The Network Council transitioned to a new leadership team as of June:
- Penelope Shumaker, Ohio Digital Network – Chair
- Molly Huber, Minnesota Digital Library – Vice Chair
- Gabe Galson, PA Digital – Secretary
