The Utah Women’s Walk: Honoring the Women of Utah

The Utah Women’s Walk: Honoring the Women of Utah is a history project on a grand scale, the brainchild of UVU American Studies instructor Michele Welch. Mrs. Welch and many of her students researched prominent women in Utah–both from history and those currently living–and have created biographies of them and conducted oral history interviews with those still living.
The Utah Women’s Walk is meant to encourage appreciation for the variety of work in which Utah women are engaged, and to demonstrate the cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity in the state.
This project has also lead to the development of the beautiful Utah Women’s Walk Garden Walk, which opened on September 16, 2017 in the Ashton Gardens at Thanksgiving Point, Lehi Utah. Central to the exhibit is the commissioned sculpture Connexion, by local artist Ben Hammond. The Garden Walk includes paths to the sculpture and benches for reflection, and short biographies and interviews of over 100 Utah women. This collection currently contains transcripts and video of most of the interviews, and continues to grow with the addition of more interviews to come.
