Autumn has officially arrived here in the Intermountain West! With it comes several exciting news items from throughout our network.

New collections

University of Utah, Marriott Library contributed 3 new collections to MWDL recently, including the Wilford Woodruff Papers, KRCL 91 FM Program Guides, and the Marriott Library’s own Book Arts Program Photoengravings Collection. These collections span a wide range of topics and interests; there really may be something for everyone here! 

25th Anniversary Exhibit

In case you missed it, we launched a 25th Anniversary Timeline in July to celebrate our 25th year in operation. The design programming was done by Leah Donaldson (UU-Marriott Library) with content input from the MWDL Outreach Working Group: Carl Aldrich (UT State Parks), Lisa Barr (Utah Historical Society), Michelle Gollehon (Utah History Society), Teresa Hebron (MWDL), Cory Lampert (UNLV), and Ken Rockwell (UU-Marriott Library). Harmful Content Statement

Thanks to our intrepid MWDL Harmful Content Statement Taskforce, we published our first Harmful Content Statement earlier in September. The statement draws on the expertise of this multi-institution taskforce, previously published statements, and research in the field on these type of statements.

MWDL Program Description Updates

We also recently updated our Program Description to remove outdated language and links, and to update sections to reflect current practice. Thanks to our Governing Body members, Julia Simic (Oregon Digital) and Robyn Ward (Westminster University), for helping with the redrafting work.

DPLA Updates

DPLA’s cultural heritage project’s operational transition to Cleveland (OH) Public Library was recently formally announced. Eagle-eyed users of the search tool may also spy a new notice on search results pages: “This digital collection of American cultural heritage is maintained by Cleveland Public Library.”

DPLA will be hosting two informal coffee chats in the near future, both of which may be worthwhile for MWDL aficionados. The October 1 session, “Keeping Online Collections Online” will discuss managing automated traffic that threatens site stability, while the October 22 session is the first of an ongoing series of “Get To Know DPLA Hubs” featuring Digital Commonwealth (Massachussetts) and Jewish Heritage and History Hub (national). Both start at 11 AM Mountain/10 AM Pacific and you can sign up to attend on DPLA’s site.
