Spring 2024 News

Welcome to Spring 2024! The weather still looks more like winter at the moment, but things are springing ahead all around us. (Forgive these terrible puns, we’ve been inside too long!)

MWDL Network News

Collections

We are thrilled to welcome back University of Nevada, Reno’s content following their upgrade to modern Islandora. Be sure to check out their collections. UNR’s collections cover a broad range of university, northern Nevada and Lake Tahoe regional history. Congratulations on this project!

Events

We’ll be in person at the joint National Council on Public History/Utah Historical Society conference on April 11-12 in Salt Lake City! If you’re there, please stop by and say hi.

Please check out our Events schedule for upcoming learning opportunities. DPLA will be hosting a series of reparative description webinars on April 18, April 25, and May 10.

Outreach Working Group

Our CfP for the newly formed MWDL Outreach Working Group ended following an extension into mid-February. Cory Lampert (UNLV) volunteered and we will re-open the call later in 2024 for additional members. In the meantime, we will work on one of the activities identified in the charge, “Identify outreach events throughout the calendar year in the region that could be potential tabling or marketing opportunities for MWDL.” Please let us know if you have any suggestions!

DPLA News

As we’ve previously shared, DPLA has been working on a strategic planning and visioning process since August 2023. Yesterday, DPLA Director John Bracken announced the next phase of this project via DPLA’s blog. Starting in April, DPLA will begin accepting proposals for a “a vibrant and durable home” to host DPLA’s flagship cultural heritage aggregation program. Former DPLA Technology Director, Michael Della Bitta, returned to the organization in March and will help steward the program to its new home.

Harvesting work with DPLA is slated to continue as normal for member hubs throughout this process.

More information and discussion will be shared at DPLA’s April Open Board + Community meeting on April 22 at noon Mountain/11AM Pacific. Please register to attend if you’re interested!

With that, we wish you all well and hope you enjoy this small selection of springtime images from the Lennox and Catherine Tierney Photograph Collection courtesy of University of Utah, Marriott Library!
